Game Description:

Path of Trials is a Roguelike game similar to Vampire Survivors. I plan to craft a world in where the choices of the user hold some importance to the world, changing it according to their choices.

How It Fits the Theme:

The theme for this game jam was "Obstacles Don’t Block the Path, They Are the Path." In Path of Trials, the obstacles are not just barriers to overcome—they shape the player’s journey. My plan was for the players to be able to choose paths with varying difficulties, with higher challenges offering greater rewards. The plan was for the game to be designed to make obstacles a part of the decision-making process, impacting both the player’s growth and the ultimate outcome.

Developer Notes:

This was my first time every making a game, working with unity and even working with C# so it was a very rewarding experience, even though I couldn't finish even half of the features i originally planned, i am quite proud I even managed to get a working build especially as i decided to do this Solo.

Current Features:

  •  Basic Combat: Iv implemented a very basic combat system with 2 demon weapons:
    • MagicBall:  Is just a basic projectile that has the ability to increase the speed, damage and amount of projectiles, however the way to increase these have yet to be added.
    • Sword Slash: Is a stabbing attack with customizable speed, damage, and range, however this too has no way to be changed.
  • Gold Collection: Enemies drop gold, which is collected and saved for future use.
  • Healing Items: Occasionally dropped by enemies, these items restore health when collected.
  • Magnet Effect: Gold and healing items attract towards the player when within a certain radius.

Planned Future Features

  • Shop System: A Shop system to spend gold on upgrading stats, new abilities and weapons and upgrading weapons permanently.
  • Leveling System: 2 types of leveling systems, 1 that will be the players total account level, which may give rewards for milestones and an in game leveling system to increase stats and upgrade weapons/abilities temporarily for that round.
  • More Attacks: Introduce additional attack types, damage types, elements, and upgrade options for the existing ones.
  • Time System: A timer that spawns more mobs the longer it goes.
  • Scoring System: a scoring system that is affected by mobs killed and time survived
  • Enemy AI Enhancements: Create more intelligent enemy behaviors that respond to player actions, as well as increasing the spawn as time goes one.
  • Enemy Types: Create more types of enemies with different specializations, as well as making bosses and mini-bosses to spawn at certain times.
  • Levels: creating different levels as well as experimenting with an infinite levels where after the boss is defeated the user can enter a portal to leave or go to a next level and continue, perhaps even add difficulty portals for the user to decide what difficulty they want to go in next.
  • Achievements: Track player milestones and award achievements for different playstyles.
  • Major optimization: this game has 0 optimization as i spent most of my time reading documentation learning how to code in the first place.
